PACE (CODES C & E)

 

Anyone undertaking enforcement action that could lead to prosecution, must adhere to the guidelines set out by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and the associated Codes of Practice.  It is essential that all enforcement staff have a good working knowledge of the PACE Codes of Practice to ensure all actions are compliant with it and that there is no abuse of process.

(This event is also fully compliant with the Police and Criminal Evidence (N. Ireland) Order 1989)


Who should attend?

Anyone involved in enforcement and the  investigation of suspects where criminal proceedings may follow. 


Course Aim

To ensure delegates understand the implications of PACE on their area of work and an overview of the PACE requirements at interview.

(This event primarily covers Code C (detention, treatment and questioning of persons) and Code E (audio recording of interviews))

  • Special considerations for vulnerable groups
  • Dealing with Significant statements
  • Use of contemporaneous notes (including correct use of notebooks, where used)
  • Use of the PACE Caution both on site and in the interview room 
  • Dealing with Legal Representatives prior to and during the interview  (including pre-interview disclosure)
  • Involvement of other third parties at interviews e.g. solicitors, interpreters etc
  • Correct procedures when conducting an audio recorded PACE Interview
